#OpSLAM: Target 1 – OralB

The first targeted sponsor of MSNBC is Oral-B, the oral care company. We believe this to be particularly appropriate for several reasons. First, they are a company dedicated to clean mouths. How antithetical to their corporate mission that they would sponsor the hate speech and oral filth that deluges the viewers of MSNBC! They are also a business in a crowded space with plenty of competition fighting for market share and should be sensitive to market share loss. Many companies manufacture dental floss, electric toothbrushes and manual toothbrushes. They also like to present a family image.

Oral-B is a subsidiary of Proctor & Gamble. As a subsidiary brand, it has its own brand manager who must report to P&G management any significant level of consumer contact and negative activity.

Remember, this is more than simply a boycott. The purpose is to communicate with the company and let them know you are choosing to do business with one of their competitors and why.

Suggestions for Contact

Be courteous but firm in your contact with the company. Any use of foul or threatening language will defeat the purpose and is not what we are about. We are asking them to withdraw their advertising because we do not want our consumer dollars to be used by MSNBC to both lie to us and to be used to promote hate speech against the good and decent people who hold traditional values in America.

Suggested topics for social media and e-mail contact:

  • Mention the quality of the product does not belong with vile hate speech against American values
  • Mention the irony of a clean mouth company supporting people who call Americans racists and “teabaggers.”
  • Mention that you are going to purchase from a competitor until they stop supporting MSNBC with your consumer dollars
  • Mention they are free to advertise anywhere they want, but you will exercise your right to buy what you want
  • If you have specific hateful speech from people such as Maddow, Matthews, Schultz, please feel free to provide links in your message

Vary your message. Try to avoid simply retweeting or just “liking” prior messages. It is okay to retweet or like prior messages as this does  reinforce those messages, but don’t stop there. Compose your own message.

Use the hashtag #OpSLAM on Twitter to gain momentum. If you would like to use #tcot #ocra #teaparty or other tags, feel free. This might bring in others who might not have heard of this.

If questioned, please refer others back to this site so they can read the original article on #OpSLAM by clicking here.

However, we would ask that you please follow Alinsky Rule 13 and stay unified on one target in a constant barrage until we see results.

Remember, we can use the liberals’ tactics without becoming as disgusting as the liberals. We can do this with class and style.

God bless and happy hunting,

    My submission was as follows:

    Dear Oral B,

I write to you to express my shock and dissatisfaction that you advertise on MSNBC.

As you may know, that network, through mouthpieces like Chris Mathews, promote lies and hate speech in direct contrast to the decent values that Americans stand, presumably the values with which you’d prefer to associate your brand.

My family of 4 are consumers of numerous Oral B (and Proctor and Gamble) products, but can’t do so in good conscience as long as your company supports MSNBC.

I ask that Oral B, as well as all Proctor and Gamble brands, cease advertising on MSNBC.

    Thank you.

Just got this reply from my not above. They are listening.

    Thanks for contacting P&G,

We rely heavily on consumer comments regarding our advertisements, and feedback like yours will help us decide how to approach future advertising efforts. Please be assured I’m letting our marketing team know how you feel.

    Thanks again for writing.

This is a standard reply. We need to make sure they are DELUGED with e-mails so that they know this is not just a small group.

In marketing, it is well known that for every negative response, there are at least 10 to 12 that feel the same way that will not bother to contact the company. So, there is a built in multiplier that is used for each one of our contacts.

      Thanks for your efforts.

      Greg

  4. Greg,

Below is the e-mail I sent Oral-B this morning. I appreciate your organization and hope they will take this matter seriously.
    ————————————————————————

    Hello Oral-B,

I am an Oral-B customer writing to you to express concern over your choices in advertising media, specifically advertising placed on the MSNBC cable news network.

One of the basic principles upon which our nation was founded is freedom of speech. While I may not agree with everyone’s political views, I would give my life to protect their right to choose them. It is because I hold this right so dearly that I am offended and angered by some of the derogatory and insulting comments made by MSNBC personalities targeted specifically towards Republicans.

With the precarious state of our current economic and political challenges, these kinds of personal insults do more harm than good and are a hindrance to our country making the progress which all Americans deserve, regardless of political affiliation.

My family and I have been pleased with our Oral-B “Sonic Complete” electronic toothbrushes, but I can no longer purchase replacement heads or any other Oral-B products in good conscience knowing that my dollars will be used to support the MSNBC network while it denigrates the character of loyal and fiercely patriotic Americans such as myself.

I urge you to reconsider your choices when it comes to advertising through broadcast media. Thank you for your time in reviewing this request, and I trust you will make the right decision.

  5. Bill S. @AskYnow says:

FYI, I’m a long term Oral-B customer writing about my concern over Oral-B’s advertising placed on the MSNBC cable news network. You are no doubt aware by now of the campaign underway to bring some pain to this network. I am happy to join this movement, even though I shall miss your products.

This network hurls constant personal insults upon Conservatives & Republicans that are extremely harmful to any chances of our country healing the divide that exists in America today.

My family has been pleased with our electric Oral-B Sonic toothbrushes. In fact, my unit is nearly 8 year old, and I was considering replacement, but I can no longer purchase any Oral-B products in good conscience. I don’t want my dollars used to advertise on MSNBC – a network that routinely mocks HALF of the country which considers themselves patriotic conservative Americans. In fact, I will even refuse the free Oral-B toothbrushes my dentist offers after each cleaning, & I’ll tell him & his staff why I’m refusing them!
Please give serious consideration to this request and re-direct your advertising to other, more worthy broadcast outlets. Thank you.

  6. Ckwntx says:

OK ,so Oral B AND P&G clearly knows where I stand in regards to their advertising with MSNBC, used your email link above for my correspondence. I hope there are many more on board with this that are not saying so here ???? will make a little more noise on FB later. Now to look at the tweets and see how it’s being done ,,Thanks for the little shove I found here ANd needed to speak up to

  7. Done. Looking forward to the next target!

  8. Pamela R says:

Happy to add that I just sent my email to OralB asking them why they are spending their money on a station that regularly spends its time using divisive and offensive language. I pointed out that I am certain these kinds of messages are in direct opposition to their own company’s values and that I hope they reconsider the types of programming they advertise on and sadly, until they disassociate themselves with media outlets such as this, I can no longer purchase their products after being a lifetime customer.

I’m now posting this page’s link to my facebook page. Then I’m coming back to this site to see what more action I can take.
